Today I pulled over to euthanize a deer that was hit by a car and was informed that I could be fined $2500 for inhumane slaughtering and that an area motorist had been charged for putting down a deer in a similar situation.
Apparently the humane thing to do is to let the animal shake, twitch, and suffer on the side of the road until the police come around.
The police arrived just after me but that poor animal lived longer than it should have. I don’t know what’s more disgusting: That I could be fined for putting an animal out of its misery or that my fear of being charged prevented me from doing the right thing.
The other day I called a fellow and a woman answered his phone; she introduced herself as his partner. In this situation she could have been a business partner, in a personal relationship with him or been a “partner in crime”; which is just a kind of business partner, I guess.
I understand that saying, “on-and-off again common law spouse,” is quite a mouthful and maybe reveals too much information to some guy calling the house, but sometimes partner is too ambiguous.
I’m not being a crank!
